Today I would like to introduce an uptempo, electronic infused
metal group called Decode the Design. I dig the entire EP, but I’d like to promote
and critique the song, “Chaos Lanes” which I believe presents more a bit more "bang" than the other tracks.
Likes
The electronic melodies along with flashes of guitars riffs and
drums clash together for quite an attractive sound. So if you enjoy scream and clean combos with said instrumentals, you have come to the right place. "Chaos Lanes" specifically, has a solid introduction that flows into symmetrical screams. If this doesn't grab you right away, you may have a problem! I feel that this EP opens the door for quite a bit of potential for their careers in the future.
Dislikes
My beef with this song lies with the clean vocals. If their
album works specifically to enhance the vocals, I’d keep a closer eye on them in the future. The
instrumentals build up so well for clean sections, I just feel that they come off flat in my opinion. Maybe a small
adjustment in the clean sections calls for just synths + vocals or drums + vocals to offset the mix of
instrumentals. Although I do enjoy the consistency of the tempo, I’d also like to hear changes of
pace, such as a slowed down chorus, piano section, or some sense of relaxation before the melodies
take over. Overall, with just a small showcase of songs, this group has potential to grow and hopefully get signed.
